How Does Travel Work

IMG_7460.jpeg

Things to consider when traveling with Africa Freedom Mission:

  • Africa Freedom Mission only provides international flight itineraries from well-traveled international airports. We also provide for hotel stays during transit. Domestic flights are the responsibility of the team member. After AFM books a team’s international flights, itineraries for these flights will be sent to the team members. The team members will then be required to book their own domestic flight.

  • There are times when individuals traveling with Africa Freedom Mission need to change their itinerary (either before or during a trip) for personal reasons. If you require AFM to change your itinerary after booking, you will be required to pay any change fees + differences in airfare.

Passport Information

IMG_9205.jpg

In order to book your flights, we need your information as it appears on your passport, as well as pertinent medical information and signed waivers.  All required forms have deadlines for submission which will be made available once you have been accepted to a team.

As a general rule, passports should have at least six months of validity when traveling internationally. Most countries will not permit a traveler to enter the country if their passport is set to expire within six months from their final day of travel.  If your passport is set to expire less than six months after the final day of travel, you will need to renew your passport before traveling with Africa Freedom Mission. Failure to do so can result in extra fees and/or trip forfeiture.

Also, if the name or date of birth that you provide does not match what is on your passport, and airfare has already been purchased, you will be required to pay the fee charged by the airline for that change.

Requirements for Minors Traveling with AFM

PASSPORT

As mentioned above, like all travelers, minors will be required to carry a valid passport that expires no earlier than 6 months from their return date of travel.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Due to the prevalence of child trafficking, many international airports and border posts require that all minors have a valid certified copy of their birth certificate with them during travel. This document along with the consent to travel can be handed to the team leader upon arrival in New York for international travel. In Zambia, if a minor doesn’t have their birth certificate, they will not be permitted to go on Safari in Botswana as it is required at the Zambia / Botswana border.

CONSENT FORM (IMPORTANT)

All minors traveling with AFM are required to download the following consent form below:

CONSENT FORM.

The consent form must be signed by a parent and notarized by a Notary Public. The minor will need to carry this document along with their passport and a certified copy of their birth certificate on their person when they travel with AFM.

Return:

Team members will need to schedule their return domestic flights no less than 4 hours after their flights are scheduled to land in the States. For domestic flights, we highly recommend paying the little extra so that you can make changes to your booking for free. This is just in case international flights are cancelled or delayed. AFM is not responsible for missed domestic flights either going to or coming from Africa.

Departure

IMG_9418.jpg

Africa Freedom Mission books flights from well-traveled international airports. AFM will book hotel rooms for everyone scheduled to go on the trip. These rooms will be reserved for the night before international travel is scheduled. We recommend flying early in the day before just in case of any cancelations or delays. Please plan to arrive before to 6pm.

At the hotel, the team will physically meet for the first time and have that evening and next morning to get to know one another. Teams will leave the hotel the morning of their international flight and travel together to the airport for their flight to Africa. AFM is not responsible for team members making their connection to their international flights. It will be your responsibility to be ready to fly the day of your international travel.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

If a situation occurs within a country that Africa Freedom Mission is sending teams (i.e. Global Health Emergency, Terrorist event, political unrest, etc.), Africa Freedom Mission reserves the right to reroute teams to serve ministry partners in other countries. AFM will pursue this option before postponing a trip in its entirety.

Postponements

Should a trip be postponed by Africa Freedom Mission, all monies will be held in our account until the trip is rescheduled. As a 501(c)3, AFM cannot issue refunds. For further information, please refer to our financial guidelines.
